Barbara G. Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer

admin.jpgBarbara Bernhard is the senior executive responsible for human resources, financial operations, information technology, and facilities management at Midwest Eye Institute. She also plays a key role in guiding the day-to-day management activities of the 10 different medical practices that comprise Midwest Eye Institute.

Ms. Bernhard has spent more than 35 years in health care administration, working in many different settings, including several not-for-profit environments. She began her career in financial management for the long-term care industry before joining the executive team of a managed care company where she expanded her responsibilities to include human resource and information technology management. Prior to joining the Midwest Eye family, Ms. Bernhard spent more than five years as a Vice President of a multi-million dollar statewide organization with ultimate responsibility for all the non-clinical operations. She also worked as an independent consultant with clients in industries as diverse as real estate, communications equipment/service, government agencies – and of course, health care. She joined Midwest Eye Institute in 1999.

Throughout her career, Ms. Bernhard has been involved as a volunteer with a variety of health care-related organizations; serving long-term as a Director/Officer for two of these organizations. As a not for profit Board Member, Ms. Bernhard was involved in activities and committees nationwide, as well as locally, for more than 15 years. In addition, she has served as a not for profit Corporate Treasurer and Board President . Ms. Bernhard was even instrumental in both administrative and program development for one local not for profit during its early years.

Ms. Bernhard has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Indiana University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Butler University. Her education and experience provide an excellent background for her position at Midwest Eye, where she believes the most important aspect of her role is assisting all the physicians and employees in any way that allows them to provide the best possible care to the more than 80,000 patients that are seen annually at Midwest Eye Institute’s clinic offices.

Song Hua-Lonberger, MBA - Executive Director

Song Hua-LonbergerSong Hua-Lonberger is the executive director of Midwest Eye Institute. She works closely with senior leadership to support 10 different medical practices that make up Midwest Eye. Song is responsible for human resources, financial operations, benefits administration, contract negotiation, IT, and facilities management.

Song has a strong passion in healthcare, and particularly in the business activities of healthcare. Song has a magnetic presence in the workplace and she believes that people are the key to our business success. Song’s expertise in human resources and project coordination make her an invaluable asset to Midwest Eye.

Song is a member of the Executive Women in Healthcare and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Song holds Master of Business Administration degree with a healthcare focus from Purdue University and is on the path to obtain her SHRM certification.
