Midwest Eye Institute is affiliated with an optometrist who has dedicated his career to assisting patients with reduced vision which cannot be improved by the variety of medical, therapeutic and surgical management services offered. Such vision impairments may be present at birth or may be acquired later in life as the result of an eye disease or injury. Common causes of low vision include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and strokes or brain injury.

Patients can be evaluated for optical and/or video enhancing devices with the primary intention of improving their ability to function in their daily activities. A wide variety of low vision aids are available including devices prescribed for driving, computer work, reading and other work-related or leisure and recreational activities. Patients may receive instruction in the use of low vision devices as needed. Information regarding other community resources is also available.
